Corn
Corn, also known as maize, has been grown for over ten thousand years, world-wide. Today corn is America’s number one field/cash crop, leading all other crops in value and volume of production two to one!
Corn grows in warm weather and matures in late summer. The stalks can grow between 3 and 20 feet tall! At one time, thousands of varieties were in production but have since dwindled to less than 100. Corn is used in everything imaginable. In addition to being eaten straight off the cob or popped, corn is used to manufacture corn syrup, corn starch, vitamins, antibiotics, sugar, whiskey, ethanol, oil, glue, the list goes on and on!
